| e-Croatia - Gateway to the Information Society
The Central State Administrative Office for e-Croatia is
the central body of the Government of the Republic of Croatia
responsible for formulating, implementing, co-ordinating and
monitoring the implementation of the Information Society Policy.
Believing that many of the reforms can be accomplished by
implementing modern methods, such as using modern technology,
and utilising the positive experiences from our European surroundings,
the Central State Administrative Office for e-Croatia began
implementation of the e-Croatia Programme in 2004.
The e-Croatia Programme was structured as a framework programme
encompassing the strategic objectives of creating a favourable
institutional and legal framework for developing a secure
electronic communications infrastructure and fostering the
innovative use of ICT's through e-Government, e-Education,
e-Health, e-Business and e-Justice. The
main goal is creating a modern, innovative and user-focused
public administration by the time Croatia becomes a full member
of the European Union, as well as achieve the level of development
of content and information services present in EU member countries.
The Programme objectives are well aligned with the objectives
of the EU i2010 Initiative.
Through technology being an impressive engine for progress
- in business, government and everyday life - citizens of
the Republic of Croatia are now realising the immense potential
that exists. So far we have developed a full spectrum of e-projects,
such as e-Islands, Moja uprava (My Government), HITRO.HR,
etc. As a result, Croatia is now earning its place in the
global IT arena, being evaluated by the World Economic Forum
as a regional leader in the development of the Information
Society. Today, our challenge lies in keeping the momentum
going.
Mr. Igor Lučić,
State Secretary for e-Croatia
