GEANIUM
- INTERACTIVE CHRONOLOGICAL VISUALISATION SYSTEM
Geanium
is an online tool for presenting sequences of events (data
that have moment and location defined) on the map where they
happened at the time when they happend
Geanium
is a system that is designed to analyse, visualise and compare
historical (or any other) time-sequenced data by interpreting
those data in a mathematical model. The data are arranged
into timelines and the system can display events from multiple
timelines on the map simultaneously.
Each event in the system can have attached multiple media
files, which are accessed by "zooming in" the event
to which they are attached. Geanium
also supports granularity of information, enabling pan and
zoom both on the map and in time to show events at variable
resolution. The system is driven by user input, providing
non-linear movement through the events.
Geanium
uses a dynamic, vectorised, multi-layered map of the world
that covers a time period from about 10,000 years BC to the
present time (and beyond for announcements). The timelines,
events, maps and media files are defined as digital objects
within the system, and published titles are public digital
objects.
Geanium
uses Adobe
Flash
technology as the primary user interface and is available
on any computer platform that supports it. Geanium
Editor professional multi-user environment for preparing and
publishing of e-content and published content can be viewed
via the Geanium
Player. Content can be published for general internet use
(by embedding into existing web sites), as SCORM-compatible
content for LMS or as an off-line use and for a distribution
by digital media such as CDs or DVDs.
Geanium
is intended for use by publishers, news and entertainment
production companies, travel, tourist and event promoters,
public and government offices, sports and fan clubs, and of
course by educational and cultural institutions.
Geanium
received the Comenium EduMedia 2009 Award together with two
Seals of Approval (one for the system and another for the
content) by Gesellschaft für Pädagogik und Information (GPI)
in Berlin and Erasmus EuroMedia 2009 Seal of Approval and
Country Award by the European Society for Education and Communication
(ESEC) in Vienna.
